What has brought you here today with the Australian team?

I worked for the Kangaroos during the last World Cup when they were based in Manchester. So I just messaged them and asked if I could come down to training. And since then, they've kind of got me involved and kept me around the NRL, which has been great for when their teams come over.

That's what brings me to campus today as well, I've been doing the whole camp with them which has been great, doing something different to what I studied at uni, but loving it.

Speaking of what you studied at uni, how do you feel like you've transitioned from the course and what learnings have you taken into your career that you do now?

I have probably not carried much from like a skill standpoint because obviously on the Sports Business course you don't do anything with cameras. However, in terms of running my own business and doing the everyday admin of that, I've got a good understanding of how businesses are run and how to market yourself and stuff like that. So, the business degree has definitely played a big part in allowing me to have the skills to run my own business.

Did you take up videography in university, or is it a hobby you picked up since?

My dad actually gave me his camera during lockdown because he wasn't using it and that's how I got into it.

You started your career interning and working at Leeds Rhinos. How did your time there shape your career to move into setting up your own business?

My time at Leeds Rhinos was very enjoyable and it's exactly where I wanted to be straight out of university. Unfortunately, due to Covid my time there was cut short. This ultimately forced me to look at the current opportunities I was faced with, which was to continue to develop my knowledge and experience within the media industry. After a successful first few months I decided to commit to being self employed as a sole trader and backed myself to make it work as videography and filmmaking is something I have a huge passion for.

The Beckett team have come here for training, so it's kind of a full circle moment getting to capture them training today. How did that feel for you?

I wished it was five or six years earlier and then I could have been playing on the pitch with them. It's a good experience for the boys. I'm sure it's one of those memories that they'll always look back on. But yeah, just jealous that I wasn't out there with them.

Any advice for our current team or students studying right now looking for a job like yours in the future?

I'd definitely say use your contacts well at uni. I'm still mates with quite a few of my lecturers and it helped me get a job with the Rhinos, funnily enough before I started doing my content creation.

Also, if you don't know what you want to go into after uni don't worry about it and don't go into it too much because I didn't have a clue and it's worked out. Just trust the process.
