Alumni Spotlight: Developing my skills further with a postgrad degree
International student Manal Al Dor, from Lebanon, talks about her experience studying MSc Accounting and Finance at Leeds Beckett.

What were you doing before becoming a postgraduate student?
I completed my bachelor’s degree in business and management with honours and I also worked in accounting.
What reasons motivated you to consider studying a postgraduate course?
Since I worked for around 1 year in accounting I felt motivated to develop my skills even further, therefore I chose to study a postgraduate course MSc Accounting and Finance.
Why did you choose to study your postgraduate degree at Leeds Beckett University?
I chose Leeds Beckett because I had a lovely experience before from the tutors and all the university staff.
What were the challenges or obstacles you had to overcome to become a postgraduate student?
I was mainly worried about the dissertation aspect of my previous course, but after a week I learned how to start writing my dissertation and I had great support from both the tutors and supervisors which really helped me with my writing.
How would you describe your experience as a postgraduate student and what was the highlight?
It was overall a lovely experience with great tutors, interesting seminars and everyone was friendly which made my experience better. The tutors also had experience in their fields which made learning from them even better.
How would you describe the University's facilities, teaching staff and employability and support services?
The facilities at Leeds Beckett helped me with my learning and the staff members supported me all the way throughout my course which made me feel better about completing my work.
What role did your fellow students play in your experience at Leeds Beckett?
They helped lead projects and we supported each other when it came to group work. They were also very punctual when we had meetings which made working as a group easier and a better experience.
Did you receive any support from the university, before, during, or after your course, and how did it help you?
The biggest amount of support I received was when I was during my course when it came to writing my dissertation which I struggled with. With their support it made it easier to understand what was expected of me in my work and helped me write it.
How has postgraduate study benefitted your career? What impact have you experienced after your course?
By studying a postgraduate degree it has helped me develop my knowledge further in accounting and finance which I can take forward into my career.

Yes, I would really recommend studying at Leeds Beckett University, you will feel supported in your work and confident in yourself.

What advice would you give to someone considering postgraduate study at Leeds Beckett?
You may be worried about not understand higher level content but just ask someone for help because you will get the support and help you ask for and it will help you progress further on your course.
