Tiled background

As part of their BA (Hons) International Business and BA (Hons) Business Management courses, students joined a two-week Intercultural Management module at the International Business Academy (IBA) in Kolding. Developed in partnership with Leeds Business School academics, the module gave students a unique look at how Scandinavian companies think, work, and lead.

Over the two-week visit, students explored what makes Danish business culture so distinctive - from teamwork and communication to leadership and negotiation. The goal? To see how global management styles differ from what they've studied in the UK and build the cultural intelligence that's essential for any future business leader.

The experience wasn't just theory, students got to visit two iconic Danish companies:

  • LEGO House - the "home of the brick," where learning through play took on a whole new meaning.
  • Danfoss - an engineering powerhouse in Nordborg, where students toured the production site, explored the company museum, and discovered how innovation drives their global success.

There were also visits to local cultural sites, concerts, and KoldingHus Castle - giving students a real feel for Danish life and values like hygge (that perfect mix of simplicity, warmth, and togetherness).

Here is what the students had to say about their experience:

"Completing a module in Denmark for my final year was an incredible opportunity," said Zulekha Selant (International Business). "Seeing how Danfoss and LEGO apply Scandinavian business values in real life gave me a new appreciation for Danish culture and work-life balance."

Zahrah Ahmed (Business Management) added, "The IBA team were so welcoming! The cultural visits and social events really helped us immerse ourselves in Danish life - and I made lots of new friends along the way."

For Poppy Woodhead (International Business), "It was the perfect mix of academic learning and social experiences. I developed my adaptability, commercial awareness, and learned how to work effectively under pressure."

Ali Hassan (International Business) summed it up: "We learnt how Danish businesses think - and it went way beyond any textbook."

Course Director Dr Sukky Jassi praised the students' dedication "I'm so impressed with how our students fully embraced the Danish way of life and excelled under pressure. They truly embodied what international learning is all about."

The trip gave students:

  • Hands-on international business experience
  • Real insights into cross-cultural management
  • Stronger professional skills - from teamwork and time management to adaptability and networking

For many, it was more than a module - it was a glimpse into their future careers in a global business world. Visit our website to find out more about our BA (Hons) Business Management and BA (Hons) International Business courses.
