Amani Hussain has just begun her first year studying MLaw Law & Professional Legal Practice at Leeds Law School. In this blog, Amani explains her motivation for studying the course and talks through her positive Leeds Beckett experience so far.

Tell us a bit about yourself and why you chose to study law at Leeds Beckett?

I chose to study MLaw Law & Professional Legal Practice at Leeds Beckett because of its unique blend of academic study and practical legal training. I am passionate about understanding how the law shapes society and influences justice. Leeds Beckett stood out to me because of its strong reputation for providing student support, career-focused modules, and proximity to a vibrant legal hub. I chose this course because it provides me with a solid grounding in academic legal concepts and the opportunity to participate in providing legal advice to real people, all of which is crucial for my long-term goal of qualifying as a solicitor.

How have you found the experience of joining Leeds Law School so far?

So far, my experience at Leeds Law School has been incredibly positive and engaging. The teaching staff are not only approachable but also deeply knowledgeable, making the learning process both accessible and enjoyable. I’ve really enjoyed connecting with new people and being part of a supportive community of peers. It’s been helpful to have access to so many resources such as online legal databases, access to online textbooks and seminar material; all of which is helping to broaden my understanding of law.

What support have you received since joining Leeds Law School?

Leeds Law School has been very supportive since the start. Academic staff have been available for one-to-one sessions to clarify and answer any questions I’ve had. Additionally, the careers service has provided guidance on work experience and networking opportunities, helping me focus on gaining practical experience in the legal field.

What are you most looking forward to on your course?

I am most looking forward to the practical elements of the course, especially the opportunity to participate in mooting and the Law Clinic. These experiences will allow me to apply legal theories to real-world scenarios, honing my advocacy and problem-solving skills.

What would you say to people considering studying your course at Leeds Beckett?

If you are considering studying MLaw Law & Professional Legal Practice at Leeds Beckett, or any of the law courses, I would say it is a fantastic choice for anyone who plans to pursue a legal career. The course is well-structured, combining the academic side with practical legal training. You will be supported by experienced staff and provided with opportunities to gain valuable real-world experience.
