Legal technologies also often referred to as Law tech are technologies which are either software, applications or tools that are created and deployed specifically for legal practice. A legal tech statistics for 2024 gathered by Lexis Nexis which is a compilation of surveys conducted by some UK law firms (such as PwC UK, AAG Law Firm), and some private companies such as Lexis Nexis Deloitte, and the Global Tech report (produced by organizations like KPMG), etc reflects that: 

  • 84% of more than 1000 lawyers surveyed believe generative AI tools will increase the efficiency of lawyers, paralegals, or law clerks 
  • One study approximates that more than 100,000 legal roles will be automated by 2036 due to the introduction of AI 
  • Almost half (43%) of in-house lawyers admitted an appetite to onboard legal tech to decrease reliance on external counsel
  • Nearly nine out of ten respondents to a 2023 LexisNexis survey were aware of the existence of generative AI and Respondents said they’d use AI to increase efficiency (61%), research matters (59%), and draft documents (53%).

Perusing the web searching for the top legal tech apps led to the discovery of the underlisted as some of the best, reliable, leading and competitive legal tech currently deployed in legal practice. This is not to say that these are the best out there as there are many.

 CLIO

The UK’s number 1 legal practice management software, loved by both legal professionals and clients alike. Used by law offices for calendaring, case management, document management, client relationship management, etc. About 150,000+ global users, law societies and associations approve of Clio in law office integration. From client intake to billing and payments, Clio covers client lifecycles.

DISCO

One of the leading e-discovery legal tech tools, it relies on artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud-based technology to streamline legal processes for law firms, corporations and government agencies. Its peculiar features include the Disco university (where users can learn and acquire skills such as data management, project management, review management etc and obtain certifications for it), its e-discovery feature (which enables users find electronic information for investigative purposes and trial prep), and a legal chatbot called Cecilia (the AI expert who can answer any question about your documents). With Disco, legal professionals can obtain forensic services and collections, end to end e-discovery services, and conduct document reviews. 

LEAP

Is a client and matter management software for law firms. Lawyers can conduct detailed conflict checks, capture key information, generate and store documents, track milestones and manage matter financials from any connected device. Leap covers conveyancing, corporate and commercial law, immigration law, family law, personal injury, estates and probate, employment law and litigation. LEAP is a strategic partner of the Law Society and like DISCO, LEAP has a “University” feature which allows users to get training on the functionality of the app.

HARVEY AI

Harvey AI assists with drafting, document analysis and translation, legal research and case strategy. Adopted by firms like A&O Shearman and PwC UK. Legal professionals can work seamlessly with its legal assistant “Harvey” which is fluent in over 50+ languages and legal systems to draft, revise, simplify complex content with ease etc. 

DOCUSIGN

Facilitates secure electronic signatures on legal documents and Intelligent agreement management (IAM). Docusign can also be used to streamline sales and manage contract lifecycles.

LUMINANCE

Is a contract analysis tool having four main features – Luminance Overview, Luminance Corporate, Luminance Diligence and Luminance Discovery - used by top UK firms such as Slaughter & May and Eversheds. It maximises natural language processing, machine learning and pattern recognition to deliver end-to-end legal document processing, contract analysis and review, eDiscovery etc. Luminance has pre-built integrations such as Outlook, Docusign, Google Drive, Salesforce for seamless workflows. 

CONTRACTPOD AI

Is a contract management software used by law firms and legal professionals to draft, review and analyse contracts with customizable templates. It covers contract negotiations, reviews, storage, acceleration, etc. The platform also has a legal GenAi chatbot called Leah.

LEXIS NEXIS

LexisNexis are premier legal research and analytic tools that provide access to case law, statutes and legal analysis. Widely used by students, academics, legal professionals, Judges, law firms across many jurisdictions.

MYCASE

Is an industry leading Legal case management software designed to help law firms streamline their operations, enhance client communication, and improve overall productivity. Mycase serves over 15,000 law firms globally and offers comprehensive features for client management, case management, billing and payments etc. MyCase is in partnership with several Bar Associations such as the American Bar Association (ABA), the California Lawyers Association amongst others. About 15,000+ Law Firms use MyCase in their operations.

EVERLAW

Is a cloud-based litigation platform used by law firms and legal professionals for document review, case analysis, and trial preparation. Law firms, corporations and government agencies rely on Everlaw to simplify complex legal work, and it is a relevant tool for litigation and investigation strategies.
