Preparing to launch our Peer Review College
Throughout 2024 we have run a pilot Peer Review College (pFPRC) at Leeds Beckett, to improve our bidding quality, increase skills in our research community and promote a vibrant and collative research environment. As the pilot programme has come to an end, Dr Shanta Coles, Associate Director of Research Services, shares her reflections on how the pilot has run and an update on next steps for the College.
How has the Pilot been this year?
The College has run well overall in 2024, across our pilot schools. Our academic colleagues have been getting used to the new process and have provided valuable feedback on how our College processes can be improved, which we will be taking on board as we move forward with our plans in 2025.
Feedback from Professional Services colleagues has been that it has improved the peer review process on bids - such as large bids to UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) - and the broad membership means that members are invited to peer review based on their expertise, rather than going to the same colleagues, as in the past.
What are next steps for the College?
There are clear opportunities in the coming year to increase our College membership, across certain disciplines, as well as opportunities for the College to come together to share best practice and for training and development opportunities.
As we move into 2025, we will be sending targeted invitations for colleagues from specific disciplines to join the Peer Review College, as well as broader calls across subject areas. These will come via email, newsletters and the usual School communications channels.
We will also be running an in-person event in the New Year, which will provide some training and development input as well as opportunities for feedback and networking. We will share details of the event and how to join us on the LBU Research Community Teams channel and Beckett Voices staff newsletter as soon as this is available.
How can I be involved and where can I find out more?
If you are interested in joining the Peer Review College or would like to find out more please email us and for further information on the Pilot please visit our Research and Enterprise intranet.
