Introducing the Worktribe Ethics System
This Autumn, we are rolling out a new research ethics system called Worktribe - for students and research colleagues. Find out more in this blog post from Amy Campbell and Charlotte Pettitt in the Research and Enterprise team.
What’s changing and why?
Leeds Beckett University is committed to upholding research ethics and integrity. Our existing research ethics system was created over 10 years ago, and its infrastructure is now outdated and cannot be modified. To ensure we continue to meet sector requirements, we have invested in a new Worktribe Ethics System for undergraduates, postgraduates, and staff, which is scheduled for rollout in Autumn 2025.
What are the benefits of Worktribe?
There are several benefits to the Worktribe Ethics System:
- Secure, cloud hosted product
- In line with sector guidance and internal policy/procedures around Ethics and Integrity
- Will improve compliance, and consistency of processes across the university
- Time saving for applicants, supervisors and reviewers
- Streamlined, efficient workflows meaning question sets will differ for different applicants depending on their answers to initial questions
- Easier, more accurate reporting on ethical applications
- Ability to amend question sets over time as different requirements arise
- Ability to differ question sets for UG/PGT, PGR and Staff applicants to make it more applicable to their requirements
- Ability to revise or amend applications
- Functionality such as adding multiple individuals to a single application and easier submission of external ethical approvals.
Where can I find out more information?
We will be providing more information to Schools as the project progresses, with training and guidance currently being planned for users, supervisors, and reviewers. We are currently in the early stages of our implementation and so are yet to finalise a specific ‘go live’ date, but we will ensure all colleagues are well informed each step of the way.
If you have any questions, please speak to your local Senior Research Ethics Coordinator, or contact Charlotte Pettitt, Research Integrity and Ethics Manager, or Amy Campbell, Research Systems Manager.
Future Worktribe implementations
We will also be implementing Worktribe for pre-award and post-award management which will replace REMS. More information regarding this will come in the new academic year.
