Bornwell Machekanyanga graduated from BSc Mental Health Nursing in 2021 with a first-class degree and the Dean’s Award for Enterprise in Nursing.

Looking back on his university experience, Bornwell said “I found my time at university really beneficial, particularly the chance to work one-to-one with tutors, where they were able to provide good support and guidance.

“I chose to study Mental Health Nursing because of my passion to support people with mental health needs. I lived in Leeds, so Leeds Beckett University was my natural choice. My wife and our three children all studied at Leeds Beckett!

“I did my placements mainly in the community because this is where I want to work in the future. I learned the importance of working in partnership with service users, supporting them to meet their complex and unique needs, and optimising the quality of their lives.

“I’m currently working as a community psychiatric nurse and have a personal ambition to start my own mental health practice so that I can work to support people in our community.”
