What we do

We sit within Psychology in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and focus upon the development of outcome measures, such as Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) and Patient Reported Experience Measures (PREMs). We're looking to address the gaps in outcome measures research. We work across health and care, building on Leeds Beckett University’s strong reputation in this field. We work with a wide range of health and care professionals, researchers, and other key stakeholders. Our research is informed by and undertaken in partnership with people with lived experience. The centre is led by Director Professor Georgina Jones and Deputy Director Dr Tim Pickles.

PROMs play a crucial role across the NHS, the third sector and in the commercial field. For example, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) now require PROM evidence as an essential part of securing labelling claims.

We focus on outcome measure development and sound methodology in social science and psychometrics. Psychometrics is a branch of psychology that focuses upon measuring how people think, feel and behave. Within the field of health research, it typically involves the development and application of questionnaires that have been designed to measure the impact of a health condition or its treatment upon areas of a person’s life.
