What are the most impactful experiences you’ve had as a Leeds Beckett student?

As a Biomedical Science postgraduate student at Leeds Beckett, I have gained valuable experiences that have shaped my academic and professional growth. Serving as a Global Ambassador, I engaged with diverse communities, welcomed international students, and supported their transition. As a Postgraduate Representative for the School of Health, I actively participated in student assemblies and committee meetings, advocating for student concerns and contributing to key discussions. My role as a Class Course Representative enhanced my leadership and communication skills by facilitating dialogue between students and faculty. Additionally, working in the laboratory, attending specialist workshops, and participating in networking events allowed me to develop hands-on expertise and expand my professional connections. These experiences have strengthened my technical skills, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities, preparing me for future opportunities in biomedical science.

How has your course prepared you for your future career?

My Biomedical Science postgraduate course at Leeds Beckett has provided me with a strong foundation in laboratory techniques, critical analysis, and problem-solving—essential skills for a career in healthcare and research. Through practical lab work, I have gained hands-on experience in sample analysis, data interpretation, and the use of advanced biomedical equipment. Engaging in research projects and academic discussions has enhanced my ability to evaluate scientific literature and apply evidence-based approaches to real-world challenges. Additionally, participating in workshops, networking events, and industry collaborations has broadened my professional insight and prepared me for the dynamic nature of the field. My roles as a Postgraduate Representative and Class Course Representative have strengthened my leadership, teamwork, and communication skills, which are crucial for working in multidisciplinary healthcare settings. Overall, this course has equipped me with the expertise and confidence to pursue a successful career in biomedical science and laboratory diagnostics.

If you were to recommend Leeds Beckett to a prospective student, what would be the key reasons why?

 One of the most impactful experiences I’ve had as a Leeds Beckett student was serving as a Global Ambassador, where I had the opportunity to represent the university, engage with diverse communities, and support international students. Additionally, being the Postgraduate Representative for the School of Health allowed me to advocate for student needs, collaborate with faculty, and contribute to enhancing the academic experience. Serving as a Class Course Representative further strengthened my leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, as I worked closely with students and staff to address concerns and improve the learning environment. These roles have not only enriched my university experience but have also shaped me into a more confident and proactive individual.
