In keeping with the previous year, a generous subsidy from the School of Health was offered to allow students to embark on this amazing opportunity. During the 2-week trip, students took part in a range of activities including lectures, practical classes, tourist attractions, and cultural experiences.

Students immersed themselves in both the theory and practice of alternative medicine, exploring diagnostic methods and treatments such as acupuncture and moxibustion - a traditional Chinese medicine therapy with consists of burning dried mugworth. Through lectures, hands-on classes, and visits to hospitals and pharmaceutical enterprises, they gained a deeper understanding of traditional healing techniques.

Beyond the classroom, the program offered cultural experiences that brought Chinese traditions to life. They picked tea in the scenic hills while discovering the philosophy of Cha Dao (the Chinese Tea Ceremony), practiced the fundamentals of Tai Chi, and visited the incredible Huangguoshu Waterfall - the largest in Asia. They also visited ancient villages and developed skills in Chinese calligraphy, ancient book restoration, and traditional wax dyeing.

Khidash Yasir, a BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science student who took part in the trip, said: "The summer school to GUTCM gave me the chance to experience medicine from a completely different perspective. Learning practices like acupuncture and moxibustion, and sharing ideas with students from Guizhou really broadened how I think about healthcare.

"Representing Leeds Beckett at the closing ceremony was a real honour, and the whole trip has encouraged me to keep exploring how science and culture connect on a global level."
