What to expect at an Offer Holder Day
Hi, I’m Aklima and I am a first year Primary Education 5-11 student. In this blog I’ll be sharing my experience at my Offer Holder Day so that you know what to expect.
Don't worry if you don't know where to go
I attended an Offer Holder Day at Leeds Beckett and I was very nervous to start with as I was quite unfamiliar with the environment and the area the university is in. I am from a small town in Yorkshire and so Leeds being a big city really made me want to go there to experience a different life as some may say. However, as soon as I got there, I was welcomed by some very friendly student ambassadors. They told me exactly how to get to where I needed to be and I found it to be very helpful as I had no clue where to be or which direction to even go!
Get specific course content questions answered
The staff at Leeds Beckett during the Offer Holder Day were so welcoming and kind. Whenever I had a question regarding my course or just university in general, they were right there, available to answer my questions. During this day I learnt many things about my course such as the different modules I will have during first day, which helped to give me a head start to my studies, which I thought was great!
Understanding staff
Once I got to the location of where my Offer Holder Day started we had a lecture about the course where they had an optional question and answer session at the end. I found this to be really useful as it slowed my mind down and allowed me to ask anything I want to. Some of the questions I asked were about the course itself, for example how long I’d have to commute for my placement during the course in order to achieve QTS status.
The teachers made it very clear that no question was a bad or wrong one.
For me this made me feel like I could be myself within the university and so it just made me feel at ease while I was there for the whole day. One thing I was told during the lecture was that everyone is in the same boat as me and honestly just that one phrase gave me so much confidence to get out there and talk to people during my Offer Holder Day. This very thing proved to me that the staff at Leeds Beckett will really understand me and will just know how to make me feel at home.
Food and drink facilities
Later during the day, of course my tummy started rumbling. So a few student ambassadors led me to the canteen where they had so much yummy food available to buy. There was hot food and cold food in the campus shop and even a little café where they had some delicious brownies. If you’re like me and LOVE brownies, I’m telling you now, you will absolutely love these.
Making friends
To finish off my Offer Holder Day I had a fun workshop with my course mates where we made puppets. I got to meet so many wonderful people while doing this and some of the main subject leaders within my course too.
The people I spoke to during the Offer Holder Day, I still speak to now. So, you could say I made friends on my course straight away, just with some words of wisdom from the members of staff during this very day.
I know Offer Holder Days can seem scary but believe me, it will be a very fun experience where you will meet so so many cool people and really get a feel for the university life.
