The Degree Apprenticeship aims to provide a broad-based educational experience, enabling apprentices to enter careers in the civil engineering and allied sectors. The target group for the programme is therefore apprentices seeking to become engineering practitioners employed in the civil engineering and related disciplines.

Course Overview
-
Part Time -
5 Years -
City Campus -
Fees for the course will be a maximum of £27,000*
The course is aimed at those wishing to progress to careers in design consultancy, but also will allow entry into careers with site-based contractors, project management companies, government agencies and local authorities, modelling specialists and a variety of specialist design areas.
The course will develop apprentices' skills, giving them the opportunity to work on major projects such as designing large structures and a variety of infrastructure including roads, water supply/drainage, bridges, airports, tunnels, sea and flood defences and structures supporting energy supply and transmission. The course will allow apprentices who simultaneously gain appropriate work-based learning in employment to aim to gain membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) via a review for Incorporated Engineer status shortly after graduation.

Essential information
The courses will take up to five years to complete, depending on previous qualifications and the course chosen. The apprenticeships comprise on-the-job practical training with academic learning. This approach combines face-to-face teaching, laboratory workshops, reflective practice and formal assessment.
The experiential learning element of the courses focuses on the apprentice’s workplace and specific areas of project work they are undertaking with regard to meeting key attributes required of a professionally recognised Civil Engineer.
Apprentices will work towards the end point assessment for this Degree Apprenticeship, which can typically provide Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status with the ICE via professional review. Employers also engage with professional development to help the apprentice progress through their training.
Apprentices will be required to attend the university on a day release basis.
96 UCAS points or equivalent required. Apprenticeship candidates will typically have at least three A levels at grades A*- C including mathematics and physical science or their equivalent or will have completed a level 3 apprenticeship as a Civil Engineering Technician and hold two distinctions for a BTEC National Diploma in Civil Engineering or related studies. GCSE grade C in maths and English required.
Please note applications are submitted through the relevant employer, not directly from applicants.
Before starting an apprenticeship, applicants will be required to sign a “Commitment Statement” which details key information regarding the apprenticeship such as learning requirements, responsibilities of the apprentice, employer and university, assessments, delivery schedule, etc, some of which are detailed below. Further information on this, and general apprentice admissions requirements, may be sought from the Apprenticeships Team:
