Dialogical Urbanism: Giving a voice to those displaced in the margins of Buenos Aires

The event will feature presentations by Adriana Massidda (PhD, De Montfort University), Martín Motta (PhD, Ministry of Territorial Development and Habitat of Argentina), and Florencia Almansi (PhD, International Institute for Environment and Development). It is organised by George Epolito and the students from the MArch course.

The event will take place online via MS Teams and is open to the public.

Biography:

Adriana Laura Massidda is a Lecturer in Architecture at the Leicester School of Architecture of De Montfort University and a Non-Stipendiary Visiting Fellow at the London School of Economics and Political Science. Adriana’s current research focusses on the environmental history of two housing estates (Beaumont Leys, in Leicester, and St Raphael’s, in London), which were constructed on former sewage farms. Adriana received her architectural degree from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina, where she grew up. After seven years practising as an architect, Adriana completed her PhD thesis at the University of Cambridge (King’s College, 2016) in 2016, and was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Centre of Urban and Regional Studies, Buenos Aires (2017-19). Adriana has taught in University College London, the University of Cambridge, the University of Buenos Aires and the University of Flores.

Martín Motta is an Architect who graduated from the National University of the Northeast (FAU-UNNE), PhD in Urbanism and Specialist in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Buenos Aires (FADU-UBA). Former Scholar of the National Council of Scientific and Technical Research in the Centre for Urban and Regional Studies (CEUR-CONICET). Directive Counsellor of the Latin American University Network of Housing Chairs (Red ULACAV). Professor and researcher on related topics with public policy of habitat and housing in urban contexts. He was Coordinator of the Integral Project of Re-Urbanization of Villa 20 in the Housing Institute of the City (IVC-GCBA). He is currently Director of Planning and Project Development at the Ministry of Territorial Development and Habitat of Argentina.

Florencia Almansi is an Architect who graduated from the University of Buenos Aires (FADU-UBA), Specialist in Participatory Urban Planning, Design and Management of Social Policies and Management of Development Projects. Senior researcher member of the International Institute for Environment and Development - Latin America. Author of publications related to urban environmental management. Peer reviewer in specialized journals and member of national and regional networks.
