Biography:
Martin Felsen is an Associate Professor and the Director of Master of Architecture Program in Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, USA. He is a fellow of the American Institute of Architects, co-founder and director of UrbanLab, an architecture and urban design firm based in Chicago. Felsen’s professional work blends design and research to produce uniquely progressive, site-specific projects, resulting in a new aesthetic for environmentally resilient architecture, landscapes, and public space. His recent book, titled “Bowling”, speculates on ways to realign architecture and infrastructure with dwindling natural resources. He was awarded the American Institute of Architects College of Fellows Latrobe Prize, the History Channel’s “City of the Future” competition, and many design awards from the American Institute of Architects. Felsen’s work has been published and exhibited widely, including in the 2010 and the 2012 Venice Architecture Biennale and the 2015 and 2017 Chicago Architecture Biennial.
Dr Gemma Jerome is the Director of Building with Nature. Gemma is an environmental planner with a specialism in the delivery, management and maintenance of green infrastructure. She chairs the British Standards Institute panel for the emergent Biodiversity Net Gain standard and sits on the advisory group for the Natural England Green Infrastructure Standards Project. “Building with Nature” is the UK’s first green infrastructure benchmark and was a winner in the 2018 RTPI Planning Excellence Awards winning the ‘Sir Peter Hall Award for Wider Engagement’. The benchmark was developed over three years as part of a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) between Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust and the University of the West of England and has been supported and endorsed from inception by the Gloucestershire Local Nature Partnership.
