Governance has become mainstream in recent years. Corporate mishaps and failures of various kinds have resulted in boards and what they do—governance—becoming the subject of research, criticism and more besides. Despite considerable attention, confusion over what governance is, the role of the board and how governance might be practiced has resulted in more questions than answers.
The talk will discuss topical governance challenges and the complex craft of board work from both practitioner and academic perspectives. Dr Crow will explore where boards go wrong, universal principles of governance, what boards need to do if they are to become more effective in their work, and how research needs to change to secure new insights.
Dr Peter Crow is an independent director and advisor with an extensive international record helping boards realise organisational potential. Contributions include directorships of private companies and family firms; advice to boards, institutions and governments; governance assessments; director education; keynotes, guest lectures and research. Peter holds a doctorate in corporate governance and strategy. He is a chartered director, and holds memberships with several international institutions including the International Corporate Governance Networks and the Global Peter Drucker Society.
