This year's spotlight aims to stimulate ideas, discussion and action around the potential of creative and storytelling methods to contribute to innovation, awareness-raising and behaviour change in support of a more responsible, "better" approach to managing tourism.
Our event offers a diverse range of presentations, film and digital storytelling aimed at sharing examples of creative methods and projects, and exploring their existing/potential contribution to responsible tourism management practice. We have some fabulous speakers and award-winning film producers taking part such as Willem Timmers (audiovisual storyteller and film director), Gareth Jenkins (innovation and design expert), Hannah Methven (sustainability expert for Explore Worldwide), Rob Holmes (founder, GLP Films), Dr Simon Woodward (heritage tourism professional) and Rebecca Armstrong (sustainability specialist, Travel Foundation)
Our programme also includes informal opportunities to exchange experiences and ideas around COVID pandemic survival/recovery strategies, hear about recent RT research and updates, and meet others in the industry, academia, and RTM staff, students and alumni who share an interest in achieving positive change.
We also have the pleasure of hosting fundraising evening for Ol Pejeta Conservancy (home of Sudan, the last male white rhino) at The Rose Bowl, Lecture Theatre D which will include an exclusive screening of the award-winning film, Last Male on Earth. To book your separate tickets (£5 per person) to attend this (in-person only) screening register through the Leeds Beckett event page. To find out more about their pioneering conservation work in Kenya visit their Ol Pejeta Conservancy and if you feel inspired you can make a “pay as you feel” on Ol Pejeta Conservancy donation.
Our MSc Responsible Tourism Management course at the School of Events, Tourism and Hospitality Management, is designed to implement responsible industry practices that improve communities' quality of life and conserve the environment and culture of destinations within travel and tourism. This distinctive postgraduate programme is the only responsible tourism management MSc in the world certified by the UNWTO.TedQual programme. It is taught by our staff with first-hand experience in tourism management, research and consultancy, who will be your host.
