A hands-on fun workshop about the history of Leeds’s grassroots music and politics of the 1970s and 1980s brought to you by Leeds Beckett University’s Dr Henry Irving and Professor Shane Ewen.
Join us at The Fenton pub, on Woodhouse Lane, an iconic historic venue in Leeds’s grassroots music culture. The heart of Leeds’s vibrant student district, The Fenton was a key site in the city’s punk and post-punk music scene of the 1970s and 1980s, and hosted meetings of the Leeds branch of Rock Against Racism. Music and politics went hand-in-hand at the time, linked by an independent ‘Do It Yourself’ attitude. During this workshop, delivered by historians from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, participants will create fanzines and mix tape inlays to celebrate the music and DIY culture of the period.
