Alexandra Bell is a British middle-distance runner who has proudly represented Great Britain at the very highest level of international athletics, including the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. There, she reached the 800m final and finished 7th in a personal best time of 1:57.66, marking her as one of the nation’s leading performers in the event.
Across her distinguished career, Alex has competed at multiple World Championships (2019, 2022), reached the final of the European Championships (2022), and was a two-time Commonwealth Games finalist (2018, 2022). She also captained Great Britain to double European Cross Country Championship gold in 2019 and 2021, demonstrating not only her athletic excellence but also her leadership and team spirit.
In 2018, Alex made history when she became the first British woman to run sub-two minutes for 800m in an all-female race on British soil, achieved at the prestigious BMC event. This landmark performance further underlined her role in pushing the boundaries of British middle-distance running.
Alex graduated from Leeds Beckett University in 2014 with a degree in Human Geography. During her time there, she combined her academic studies with her development as an athlete, competing for Pudsey & Bramley Athletics Club and building a career that has spanned both track and endurance disciplines.
Following her success on the track, Alex has transitioned seamlessly into road running, continuing to compete at the highest level internationally. She has recently regained her Great Britain vest on the world stage and continues to go from strength to strength, becoming British champion in both the 5km and half marathon. She has also risen to become the sixth fastest British woman of all time over 10km with a time of 30:57.
Her journey continues to evolve as she sets her sights on new challenges, including the marathon, with ambitions of returning to the Olympic stage.
