Guin Batten is a British rower who won silver at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games in the quadruple scull alongside Miriam Batten, Gillian Lindsay and Katherine Grainger. She has also achieved distinction beyond Olympic competition, including setting the record for the fastest solo crossing of the English Channel and leading the first all-female crew to row the Atlantic from west to east.
Guin studied Human Movement Studies at Leeds Polytechnic, graduating in 1991. During her time in Leeds she joined the Leeds Polytechnic rowing club and the high performance athletics programme coached by Wilf Paish at Carnegie.
Guin remains actively involved in the sport as a member of Thames Rowing Club and as a Steward of Henley Royal Regatta. She was the first female board member in the Regatta’s 175-year history and has contributed strategically to improving gender balance within the event.
Alongside her sporting contributions, she serves as Deputy Chief Executive Officer at Volleyball England and as Coastal Rowing Chair and Council Member for World Rowing. Guin has designed and developed a new rowing format, that will debut at the LA Olympics in 2028.
