“I'm Marjorie Gay, a French exchange student. Living for six months in Leeds as an international student was an unforgettable experience for me. Leeds Beckett University helped me a lot and I was able to find accommodation right next to the university. I met many new people and everyone was wonderful to me. Despite the fact that my English was not perfect, the tutors, students, administrators, everyone was so understanding and did not judge me. I felt very welcome during these six months.

“Through my course, I was able to visit many places and study beautiful landscapes. The tutors always listened to us, paid attention to our mental health, and adapted to my needs as an international exchange student, which reassured me a lot.

“This university exchange opportunity had a great impact on me; it was an experience that I loved and I already miss. If I have one thing to say for an international student wanting to study Landscape Architecture at Leeds Beckett University - just go for it!”

"My experience as an international exchange student studying Landscape Architecture at Leeds Beckett University was wonderful. I was able to discover new approaches to landscape design and the profession of landscape architecture. The students were all pleasant and I felt integrated quickly, despite cultural differences.

“The tutors were all attentive and cared about our wellbeing. This is something that I really appreciate because they take students' opinions and feelings into account that much. The field trips and volunteering activities provided great opportunities to discover the surrounding landscapes of Leeds. It was an enriching semester and I would have loved to stay longer.

“This experience allowed me to discover a place where the landscape architect belongs, which makes me want to come back to work here after my studies!”

Postgraduate student from Sweden – Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences

“Thank you for making us feel extra welcome - It is very much appreciated! I studied at Leeds Beckett as an exchange student for two semesters. Within my first month at Leeds Beckett, I got to visit three different areas with my colleagues as a part of the course. For me, this is one of the greatest things about studying here. Especially, as an international student, I feel that it is so important to get to know the country. And I really get to see England through my studies!

“Another positive experience from studying Landscape Architecture at Leeds Beckett is the feeling of support, both from fellow students and tutors. Everyone helps each other, and I see this as a benefit of the small size of the year groups – we get to know each other very well. To be an international student also comes with some challenges, but to be honest, the positives outweigh the negatives by miles.

“Personal examples of some positives about studying here are; I’m improving my English as well as making contacts and friends from all around the world. To live and study here at Leeds has so far taught me so much and I can tell it will always be a valuable and significant time in my life!”
