Australian academic joining Leeds Beckett after winning prestigious Fellowship
Dr Bonnie Pang from their School of Science and Health will be working under Emeritus Professor Anne Flintoff and Dr Beccy Watson, both from the Carnegie School of Sport.
Dr Pang will spend two years working at Leeds Beckett to complete a research project exploring the health and active lifestyles of Chinese students. She will also work with colleagues in the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion research centre to extend her expertise in contemporary theorising of ethnicity, race, gender intersectionality as well as developing her use of innovative research methodologies for working with young people.
The fellowship will also help build leadership and pedagogical skills for her to lead future inter-disciplinary research projects and deliver high quality, post graduate teaching and research supervision.
Dr Pang’s application was one of 1511 submitted in the social science category – just 14% of these were funded.
Dr Pang said: “I am delighted to have won such a prestigious and competitive Fellowship. I’m excited at the prospect of spending two years at Leeds Beckett University, working with so many internationally renowned colleagues in the area of race and gender inequalities and social justice issues in physical education, physical activity and health.”
Professor Anne Flintoff said: “This success is fantastic news, both for Bonnie and our university. Bonnie’s research aligns well with critical social science work in PE and sport in the Carnegie School of Sport, and her Fellowship offers a real opportunity for a reciprocal exchange of ideas and knowledge. We’re very much looking forward to working with her on her innovative and important work.”
