Top football role for Leeds Beckett graduate
After graduating from Leeds Beckett University with a 2:1 honours degree in Sport Coaching this summer, Callum Gough, from Barnsley, is now playing a pivotal role in Bradford City’s first team signings, acting as a first team player recruitment analyst.
He is responsible for scouting players from other clubs and leagues all over the world, providing statistical data and analysis to the City coaching staff to identify potential players for signings.
Callum explained: “Going from small coaching roles and placements at university to then being a performance analyst with Bradford City Football Club is a dream come true for me. I was also lucky enough to work with Leeds United during my time at Leeds Beckett, so to have both on my CV before even officially graduating is something I’m really proud of.
“I’m going to continue my studies while I work at the Club, returning to Leeds Beckett in September to start an MRes (Masters in Research). I’m looking forward to getting started on the next phase of my studies while being able to progress a dream career at the same time – that makes me feel very lucky.”
Callum has been a high achiever throughout his time at university, winning the Campus Sports Award in his second year and setting up the Leeds Beckett Baseball Team, which has been to four national championships under his reign. He is also a volunteer coach at Wigton Moor Under 17s football team.
Speaking about Callum, Dr Dave Alder, Senior Lecturer in the Carnegie School of Sport, said: “Getting jobs with not one but two professional football clubs is no mean feat, and we’re rightfully proud that Callum’s knowledge and experience gained during his Sports Coaching degree has enabled him to compete for such highly acclaimed roles.
“It’s testament to Callum’s hard work and natural ability, which also shone through when he set up and ran the university baseball team. We’re looking forward to welcoming him back to Leeds Beckett this autumn, where he will act as an excellent role model for new students joining us.”
