New Associate Dean for Leeds Beckett
Professor Cooper took up his new post this month, joining Leeds Beckett from the University of Salford where he was most recently Academic Director for Salford’s Media City campus.
His previous roles at the University of Salford included Director of Graduate Studies, Head of School, and Associate Dean in Arts, Media and Social Sciences.
In his role as the first Academic Director for Salford’s Media City campus, Professor Cooper was instrumental in planning and establishing the academic offering across a spectrum of disciplines in creative media and digital technologies, in collaboration with neighbours such as the BBC, ITV, Peel Studios and SMEs at the largest media hub in the UK outside London.
Professor Cooper has a first class honours degree in English and French from the University of Leeds and a PhD from the University of Southampton. His teaching and research interests lie in language theory, and social and cultural discourses.
Professor Cooper commented: “I am delighted to be joining the Faculty of Arts, Environment and Technology as Associate Dean (Academic). In addition to the attraction of a fascinating mix of disciplines that interact in dynamic and innovative ways, I am particularly enthusiastic about a role that enables me to join with colleagues and students in creating learning opportunities that enrich the experience and potential of those who are part of Arts, Environment and Technology at Leeds Beckett.”
Professor Mohammad Dastbaz, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Environment and Technology and Pro Vice Chancellor, added: “I am very pleased that Professor Andrew Cooper is joining us from the University of Salford. Andrew brings with him a wealth of experience and I am sure will be able to make a positive contribution to further development of our Faculty’s academic offering. Building on an excellent set of National Student Survey results this year of 84% overall satisfaction, Andrew will be working closely with our colleagues in different course teams to make sure we provide an excellent learning experience for all our students.”
