Leeds Beckett University help prepare Josh Warrington for upcoming world title fight
Josh has been working with MSc Sports and Exercise in Physiology graduate Andrew Langford in the Carnegie School of Sport’s strength and conditioning studio ahead of his highly-anticipated bout against IBF World Featherweight champion Kiko Martinez.
Andrew is Josh’s strength and conditioning coach and is Director of the International Universities Strength and Conditioning Association.
Josh and Andrew worked with the Carnegie School of Sport to prepare for his last bout against Mauricio Lara at Emerald Headingley Stadium in September 2021. That fight ended prematurely, despite a positive opening round by Warrington, after Lara suffered an accidental head cut in the second round.
Warrington’s preparations have seen him work closely with the Carnegie School of Sport once again in the hope to reclaim the IBF World Title for a second time.
Peter Mackreth, Dean of the Carnegie School of Sport, said:
“We wish Josh the very best of luck for his upcoming IBF World Featherweight title bout against Kiko Martinez.
“It has been a privilege to once again host Josh’s camp on our campus in preparation for his world championship bout. We’re proud to support the sporting talent of Leeds in achieving their goals, and its rewarding to see graduates such as Andrew Langford applying his expertise through his role as Josh’s strength and conditioning coach. We will be cheering for Josh in his quest to regain his world featherweight title.”
The Carnegie School of Sport building boasts a wealth of outstanding facilities including dedicated research laboratories, a hypoxic laboratory, a health and wellbeing studio, a covered rooftop 60m sprint track, enhanced strength and conditioning spaces, and changing and recovery facilities.
The facility at Leeds Beckett University’s Headingley Campus is a base for the Carnegie School of Sport’s undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes and provides a hub for the elite athletes who use the university’s sports performance expertise.
