BBC Documentary showcases Leeds Beckett’s support of England Women’s Rugby League
The documentary, which is available to view on BBC iPlayer, follows England’s players and coaching staff throughout the 2022 season as they prepare for their first World Cup on home soil since 2013.
The feature contains training and strength and conditioning sessions at Leeds Beckett University’s Headingley Campus, including the world-class Carnegie School of Sport building, as well as interviews with players on campus.
Carnegie Great Outdoors are also featured in the documentary, delivering team-building activities to England Women. The team were assisted by Physical Education with Outdoor Education students Chloe Prestwood, Francesca Harrison-Billbrough, and Holly Bainbridge, who have written a blog about their experience.
England Women have been working closely with experts in the Carnegie School of Sport throughout the previous two years in preparation for the World Cup, including performance testing led by Professor Ben Jones, who also works as Head of Performance for England Rugby League.
England have named a 24-woman squad for the Rugby League World Cup, which includes LBU Sport and Exercise Science student Keara Bennett and Sports & Exercise Physiology graduate Leah Burke. Read which students and graduates have been selected to compete in the 2021 Rugby League World Cup.
England will get the World Cup underway on Tuesday 1 November against debutants Brazil at Headingley Stadium, 14:30 kick-off. The game will be part of a double header of fixtures, with Papua New Guinea, who are training at Leeds Beckett during the competition, facing newcomers Canada.
