Gold for green-fingered Rich brothers
The duo, who run their family landscape architecture business, Rich Landscapes, based near Brecon, Wales, have taken the gold award in the artisan category at the prestigious annual show.
David, a final year student on the BA (Hons) Landscape Architecture and Design course, and his brother Harry, a graduate of the same course from 2008, are showing their garden, 'Un Garreg' (one stone), at the Chelsea Flower Show this week, after winning the best in show at last year's Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Flower Show in Cardiff.
David said: "We're pretty amazed to have won a gold medal. It's a little surreal and we're still pinching ourselves but it's really nice to be noticed and we've finally relaxed now and are enjoying being here. It's all very new and exciting. I'm still studying at Leeds Met so will be going back now for three final weeks to complete my degree."
Steve Heywood, Senior Lecturer in Landscape Architecture at Leeds Metropolitan, added: "I am so proud of the boys for achieving such a high accolade within the profession. We all know it's no mean feat to juggle the preparation and process in order to be part of the show as well as work and studying but they have done it. It's a great design and the gold is so well-deserved. We are so proud to be associated with the lads here at Leeds Met and are very excited for them for the success which will inevitably follow."
