Inspector Banks author comes to Leeds
On Wednesday 18 June, Peter will discuss his crime novels and his writing processes before holding a question and answer session with the audience. The event will take place from 5.30pm at the University's Broadcasting Place on Woodhouse Lane, in room A101.
Event organiser and Senior Lecturer in Popular Culture, Dr Dan Laughey, said: "We are delighted to be welcoming an author of Peter Robinson's calibre to Leeds Metropolitan University. His novels are rightly acclaimed as among the best examples of contemporary crime writing.
"For all those Yorkshire folk who have read Peter's stories or seen them serialised on TV, this is a rare opportunity to hear Peter talk about his work, and the people and places that inspire him."
Peter Robinson grew up in Yorkshire and now divides his time between Richmond and Canada. There are twenty books in his bestselling Inspector Banks series: the critically acclaimed crime novels have won numerous awards in Britain, the United States, Canada and Europe, and are published in translation all over the world.
DCI Banks, the television series based on the Inspector Banks books, is now a major new ITV1 drama by Left Bank productions. Stephen Tompkinson (`Wild at Heart' and 'Ballykissangel`) plays Inspector Banks and Andrea Lowe (`The Bill' and 'Murphy`s Law`) plays DI Annie Cabbot. The 2007 Inspector Banks novel, Friend of the Devil, was adapted as a series for ITV and was aired in Autumn 2011. The book was also shortlisted for the Theakstons Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year award for 2008. Peter`s recent standalone novel, Before the Poison, won the 2012 Arthur Ellis Award for Best Novel by the Crime Writers of Canada. This was Peter`s sixth Arthur Ellis award.
