Postgraduate students' time to shine
The event will take place on Wednesday 26 September in various venues at Leeds Met's city centre campus. It is the first time that all three disciplines of music, film and performing arts are to be showcased in one event as a selection of postgraduate students from courses including MA Performance Works; MSc Music Technology; MA Audio Post Production; MA Music Production and MA Filmmaking come together.
The showcase will get underway at 1pm with a contemporary music concert in the Perform 1 venue in the Calverley Building where there will be solo-based work by students and staff, followed by afternoon tea, cake, demonstrations and networking. At 3.30pm the next performance will follow involving three speakers, all of whom are MA Performance Works students.
Principal Lecturer Teresa Brayshaw commented: "This is the first opportunity we have had to celebrate the work of the students collaboratively and collectively. The standard of work is of an extremely high calibre - some of our Performance Works postgraduate students have showcased internationally this year in Croatia and Romania as well as at the world renowned Edinburgh Festival.
"The Landing Party is also a great opportunity for anyone who is interested in studying one of our MA courses to come along and get a taste of what's really involved and meet not just our current students but also the academics who would be teaching them."
A celebration drinks reception will be held in the Calverley Building at 5pm before the showcase venue switches to nearby House 14, Queen Square at 6pm for a theatre show performance called Emergency Drinking Water - waterproofs will be provided as the audience could get wet!
At 7.30pm the MA Filmmaking students get their chance to shine with a collection of four of their international award-winning films being screened at the Electric Press in Millennium Square. The films entitled Mars II, Tell my Story, Billie and Billy and Duty of Care are written, produced and directed by the students.
Leeds Metropolitan's Head of School for Film, Music and Performing Arts Andrew Fryer, said: "The MA student Landing Party is an event not to be missed. The passion that the postgraduate students have for their art is second to none and to see all of their hard work come together in this celebratory day-long showcase will undoubtedly be a highlight on this year's academic calendar."
