And now the father-of-two, who has written his own biography and has an extensive background in the building, construction and property development industries, will share his experience and expertise in a guest lecture at Leeds Metropolitan on Thursday 11 October.
The event, entitled 'Striving to be Remarkable', is open to the public and will be held from 6pm-7pm at the University's Rose Bowl building at the city centre campus.
Mr Hodgkinson, commented: "It is even more crucial given the current economic climate that people are prepared to stand out from the crowd to make a difference. I continually strive to find that 'spark' in everyone I meet, which I believe will transpire into great things."
As chairman of Yorkshire Forward over a seven-year period, Mr Hodgkinson oversaw the agency grow the economy of Yorkshire and Humber, and was responsible for an annual budget of £360m.
He has sat on the Regional Heritage Lottery Committee, and is still involved with a number of Charity, Community and Partnership Boards.
Event organiser and Principle Lecturer in Accounting and Finance at Leeds Metropolitan, Paul Houghton, said: "In the current economy business and leadership is paramount and it is important that we celebrate local figures of success, such as Terry Hodgkinson, who is a fantastic role model for our students, staff and members of the public who are also welcome at this free event. There are unseen people who are instrumental in creating successes and Terry is a key business figure who inspires leads and motivates."
The lecture will see Mr Hodgkinson address the lack of leadership in the current challenging economic times and the steps needed to be taken to stand out, make a difference and be remarkable. He will highlight the gap between what is expected of our leaders and what is actually being demonstrated.
The hour-long lecture begins at 6pm and will conclude with an opportunity to ask questions. The event is free, but places are available on a first come, first served basis.
