World class squash court opens at Leeds Metropolitan
The 7pm Exhibition Night event, which is open to the public, will see James go head-to-head in a game with world number 44, Chris Simpson.
James, who has been using the squash facilities for his training at Leeds Metropolitan for a number of years, commented: "The new squash court at the University's Headingley Campus makes for a top class training facility.
"I've already tried and tested the court and I'm really looking forward to the official opening event and the match with Chris Simpson. There should a great atmosphere on the night and I'm delighted to be taking part."
Racket Sport Development Officer at Leeds Metropolitan and former professional player, Kirtsy McPhee, who has organised the event, said that English Squash and Racketball - the national governing body for the sports, had helped fund the new court.
"As well as our students we have a number of professional, world class players who use our University's squash facilities for their training," said Kirsty. "The feedback they have given about the standard and quality of the new court has been nothing but positive."
Following the main match, Kirsty will be taking part in a mixed doubles game with former world number one Vanessa Atkinson, who is also a student at Leeds Metropolitan.
In addition James Willstrop will be signing copies of his autobiographical new book Shot and a Ghost - A Year in the Brutal World of Professional Squash.
Tickets to the Exhibition Night cost £5. For further information and to book your seat contact Kirsty McPhee at k.m.mcphee@leedsmet.ac.uk.
