Cost of living

We know the rising cost of living has a big impact on many students, and we're here to help.

Together with Leeds Beckett Students’ Union, we've created a hub of support, packed with practical advice, resources and services designed to make life a little easier.

Whether you need tips on managing your budget, help finding a job, or you just need some advice, we’ve got you covered every step of the way.

Starting university is exciting, and a little financial planning can make sure it isn’t stressful. Here is everything you need:

Money Advice and budgeting tips

  1. Money, fees and bursaries

Starting university is an exciting time, and understanding your financial support options can make it even better.

Whether it's funding through Student Finance, benefits, or other sources, it’s essential to know what you’re entitled to. Many students, including parents, estranged students, or those with a disability, may qualify for additional support. Don’t miss out or risk being incorrectly assessed.

With smart planning, you can also stretch your money further. Check out our budgeting tips to help make your student experience as financially stress-free as possible.

If you have questions about your student loan payments at the start of term, our Student Funding Team is here to help.

  2. Budgeting advice

Use this page to help find out if you can increase your income and cut down on spending.

  3. Money and budgeting

“How do I pay for university?” is a common question we get asked at Open Days and Applicant Days. The answer is that there are lots of funding options out there, so take the time to find out what you are entitled to.

  4. Living away from home

This might be the first time you’re completely managing your own money. Here’s a few tips to help you get started with budgeting and financing your studies.

  5. More budgeting tips (blog post)

One of the best feelings in the world is seeing your bank account after your loan comes in. One of the worst is realising how quickly it’s going to run out.

  6. Is your tenancy agreement all inclusive

Given the recent price hike in utility bills, it’s important that you check your tenancy agreement for clauses that state that your agreement is “all inclusive”, and more importantly if it means what you think it means.

  7. Finding paid work while you study

Beckett Careers can help you find work to pay the bills while, and build your CV for your graduate career.

We know the current cost of living crisis is a very real concern for many of our students. While the national crisis means our own costs are increasing significantly, we are determined to make a difference where we can. We have worked with Leeds Beckett Students’ Union and colleagues across the university to create a package of support and initiatives designed to help with some of the extra costs students face. Our Student Support and Advice Team is on hand to support our students with financial information, advice and guidance.
