Law Education and Practice research group

Legal gavel and law text books

Against the backdrop of a challenging global landscape, it is becoming increasingly important for Higher Education (HE) and industry to work together to identify shared challenges, and develop meaningful research, knowledge exchange, and practice-based initiatives in response. The Law, Education, and Practice (LEaP) Research Group seeks to build and sustain dynamic connections between institutions and external partners through building a vibrant, multidisciplinary community of academics, postgraduate researchers, practitioners, and policymakers who are interested in co-creating collaborations around the theme of law, education, and practice. Opportunities for members include: further developing networks and professional profiles; accessing additional guidance around engagement in the research cycle; and gaining support with professional development and recognition. Members of LEaP are engaging in a variety of research and practice initiatives that particularly align with Leeds Beckett University’s strategic research theme around inclusive, prosperous communities  and related UN Sustainable Development Goals including: quality education, reduced inequalities, and sustainable cities and communities.

Key research and practice themes include:

  • professional identity
  • development and recognition
  • career transitions
  • learning spaces
  • creative pedagogies
  • simulated teaching and learning
  • assessment and feedback
  • awarding gaps
  • self-efficacy
  • sense of belonging
