Welcome to our teaching community.

You will see reference to DEAP in our CLT information, and this means Developing Excellent Academic Practice. It is the umbrella term for the framework that our Educational Development Programme is built on. If you are an experienced teacher you will find much to support you in finding your feet at Leeds Beckett and help you feel equipped to manage your new role. If you are new to supporting learning and teaching, we provide a bespoke pathway within DEAP called Learning Excellent Academic Practice (LEAP).

The Educational Development Programme provides a wide variety of workshops, interactive events, networks, podcasts, fora and conferences which help you focus on developing your own practice.

To get you started we offer an 'Introduction to CLT' session where you can find out in more detail about the support, resources and development opportunities we provide and get information tailored to your specific situation.

You will find the dates and booking links in the Educational Development Programme. If you cannot make one of the organised monthly sessions but would still like to chat to a member of the team, please email clt@leedsbeckett.ac.uk and we can arrange to meet at a time to suit you.

This session is aimed at those who are starting their teaching journey in Higher Education. You will be given opportunity to:

  • Develop a greater understanding of your role as a teacher in Higher Education
  • Familiarise yourself with underlying principles and theories of effective teaching and learning
  • Consider a range of factors in the design and planning of teaching sessions to promote student learning
  • Gain practical skills to better enable you to undertake the role, plus strategies to deal with difficult situations that may arise
  • Develop mechanisms by which you can continually review and enhance your teaching practices providing you with the essential skills to undertake a range of relevant duties

Check dates and book a place via the Educational Development Programme.

Please note that as you are required to complete some pre-session activities, registrations will close one week prior to the date of the workshop.

The LEAP pathway is specifically designed to support you as a member of staff in building your practice by providing bespoke sessions and resources. It is aimed at colleagues who may:

  • Have joined us from professional practice
  • Are working in professional services
  • Are working as a graduate teaching assistant
  • Are a PhD/PGR student who is just beginning to teach
  • Are colleagues who simply wish to enhance their ability to support learning and improve the student experience
  • Are a colleague who simply wishes to enhance support for learning and the student experience

LEAP is not a direct route to HEA Fellowship; rather, it provides an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the requirements for a Fellowship application by mapping the sessions to the Professional Standards Framework (PSF 2023).

Attendance at Induction is critical to successful engagement in the programme.
