Admission Interview Guidance
Congratulations on being selected for an interview for our BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy course. The information provided here will assist you in preparing for your interview and will give you an idea of what to expect on the day.
You have been selected for interview on the strength of your application. We feel you demonstrate a range of attributes and qualities that indicate you have the potential to succeed as a healthcare professional. The process requires you to attend a formal interview so that we have a chance to decide on your suitability for our course. You too must decide, based on your findings at interview, as to which university and course you think would best meet your needs as a learner. It is our aim to ensure you leave us with sufficient knowledge to make your decision wisely.
Do remember that an interview is a two-way process and that you should treat the interview as an opportunity to ask the course team questions.
This process is being used for recruiting students to all health professional courses in England to ensure that we recruit the students with the right values to support effective team working in delivering excellent patient care and experience. You will be able to find out more about this by researching and reading the NHS Constitution: https://www.hee.nhs.uk/about-2/work-us/hee-applicant-guide/making-successful-application/values-based-recruitment.
- Interview questions link to the principles and values of the NHS Constitution. We use scenarios and questions to understand how you have managed certain situations in your past or what you would do in a specific circumstance.
- We will also ask you about your understanding of the philosophy, practice and scope of occupational therapy.
- We can also discuss any aspects of the course which you may have questions about.

The date and start time of the selection session have been communicated to you via your UCAS Hub account.
At least two days prior to your interview date you will receive an email which will include a Microsoft Teams link for your individual interview time and a second link for the group task.
The group task is scheduled at the end of the morning or afternoon of interviews. The interview panel includes occupational therapy lecturers, occupational therapy clinicians who regularly have Leeds Beckett students on placement and members of our service user and carer group.
You do not need to download Microsoft Teams if you will be using a PC or laptop, as you will be able to join as a guest from the link. For other devices, you may need to download MS Teams. You will need access to the internet and a camera and microphone on your computer. You will be required to have your camera turned on during your interview, so please check this is working prior to your interview.
If you think that it is not going to be possible for you to attend an online interview, it is very important that you let us know. All interviews are held during working hours, Monday to Friday.
Your interview will be held online using MS Teams. If you haven’t received this, please check your spam/junk emails first and then contact us on 0113 812 5946. Please check that your contact details, including telephone number, are correct on your application form.
If you will be accessing Microsoft Teams from a different email address to that on your UCAS application, please let us know as soon as possible at UCASAdmissions@leedsbeckett.ac.uk
Your interview will be structured as follows:
- An individual interview (20-minutes) focussing on the core values of the NHS Constitution in England.
- A group task (up to 30 minutes) summary and end of interviews.
At the start of the interview you will need to show your interviewer a form of photographic ID, such as your passport, driving licence or school/college ID card. Please have your ID available and camera turned on at the start of the interview to avoid delays.
You’ll be notified of the outcome of your application through your UCAS Hub.
