Admission Interview Guidance
Congratulations on gaining an interview for our BSc (Hons) Speech and Language Therapy course. The information provided here will assist you in preparing for your interview and will give you an idea of what to expect on the day.
You have been selected for interview on the strength of your application. We feel you demonstrate a range of attributes and qualities that indicate you have the potential to succeed as a Speech and Language Therapy professional. The process requires you to attend an informal interview so that we have a chance to make a decision as to your suitability for our course. You too must make a decision, based on your findings at interview, as to which university and course you think would best meet your needs as a learner. It is our aim to ensure you leave us with sufficient knowledge to make your decision wisely.
Do remember that an interview is a two-way process and that you should treat the interview as an opportunity to ask the course team questions.
Prior to your interview you will receive an email with details about the day which will include an online link for a Microsoft Teams session to join.
With this link you will also be sent all 3 interview questions that you will be able to prepare for in advance. Further details will be provided in that e-mail.
The selection process has a values based ethos (https://www.hee.nhs.uk/our-work/values-based-recruitment) and in the online interview you will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate values, knowledge and commitment that are highly relevant to the speech & language therapy profession.
Please wear whatever you normally wear to go to school, college or work. There’s no need to dress up; we’re not judging anyone on clothing or style, but we do ask that you’re fully dressed (for example, not in pyjamas or a dressing gown).
We would urge you to find a quiet and private space to join online.
The date and start time of the selection session have been communicated to you via your UCAS Hub account.
Your interview will be held online using MS Teams. If you haven’t received this, please check your spam/junk emails first and then contact us on 0113 812 5946. Please check that your contact details, including telephone number, are correct on your application form.
If you will be accessing Microsoft Teams from a different email address to that on your UCAS application, please let us know as soon as possible at UCASAdmissions@leedsbeckett.ac.uk
Access to MS Teams will differ depending on the type of device you will be using. If you will be using a desktop computer or laptop to attend your interview, you should be able to attend simply by clicking on the link sent out via email. If you are using a smart phone or tablet you will need to download the free MS Teams app prior to your interview date before being able to access the given link. If you have a headset, we advise that it is used with the device you will be logging into the interview with.
You will be required to have your camera turned on during your interview, so please check this is working prior to your interview.
If there is a genuine reason why you are unable to attend at your allocated date/time please contact ucasadmissions@leedsbeckett.ac.uk and we will do our best to find an alternative date/time. However, due to high demand it may not be possible to reschedule your interview immediately. All interviews are held during working hours, Monday to Friday.
The online interview process is designed to help us select applicants that are able to demonstrate the range of knowledge, attributes and experiences that will support them on the course and as a speech and language therapist. You will have the opportunity online to meet some of the university tutors, service users, carers and current students.
