Costs and Funding
How much does studying abroad cost?
The costs can really vary depending on the country you are travelling to. You will need to consider the costs of travel and visas, accommodation and general living expenses. Make sure you spend some time researching the country and the institution you’re interested in. There may be funding to support your trip, see the Funding section for more information.

Funding
The Turing Scheme is a UK government’s programme which provides funding for international opportunities in education and training across the world. Full details can be found here.
Am I eligible?
If you are taking part in a global opportunity which lasts between 4 weeks to 12 months, in country, you may be eligible.
Examples of eligible opportunities include: an overseas work placement, study abroad (one semester or full year), a volunteering programme or summer school with a Leeds Beckett approved organisation.
The opportunity must be in-country (online programmes are not eligible) and approved by the university.
How Much Funding Will I Receive?
The scheme is designed to provide you with funding to cover some of the cost of living, the amount you receive will depend on how long your placement is and which country you are travelling to. Destination countries/territories are grouped into three categories: Group 1 (high cost of living), Group 2 (medium cost of living), Group 3 (lower cost of living).
For 2022/23 the funding was as follows:
Placements of four to eight weeks:
- £545 per month (equal to £136.25 per week) for Group 1 destinations
- £480 per month (equal to £120 per week) for Group 2 and 3 destinations
Placements of nine weeks to 12 months:
- £380 per month (for group 1 destinations)
- £335 per month (for group 2 and 3 destinations)
