Flipped learning
The flipped classroom is a pedagogical model in which the instructional content and the homework elements are “flipped". Material that would normally be delivered in a lecture is accessed by students during their self-directed study time, while activities that would normally be considered “homework” or student-centred learning form the basis of the face-to-face sessions.
This model requires that materials and resources are made available to students before the taught session, allowing the in-person time to focus on deepening understanding and broadening learning. This does not mean recording a full one-hour lecture for students to watch; rather, a variety of resources can be prepared to reflect the lecture content. These may include short videos (around 10 minutes), case studies, readings, or simulations.
The flipped classroom model is most effective when applied consistently across a whole module or course.
