What are the different views for staff and students?
The University's Portal and Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), known as MyBeckett is the central platform for teaching and learning for both staff and students. Here you will have access to a range of systems, services, module teaching materials and online assessments and feedback tools.
- The Portal refers to the Helpful Links that staff and students will see when they log into MyBeckett.
- The VLE is the teaching and learning content available for staff and students in Modules and Communities (Course Groups).
The following is an overview of what each user will access when they log in to My.LeedsBeckett.ac.uk.
The menu on the left is the same for all users:
The MyBeckett Homepage (the first link in the menu) contains Helpful Links with a variety of themed coloured cards (these will be described in more detail below).
These Helpful Link cards will be unique for different types of students, for example, Franchise, Distance Learners, Degree Apprentices etc.
This guide will give an overview to the different student views and will be detailed for each one, highlighting what and where information is displayed.
Types of student roles:
- Student (On-campus, Full Time/Part Time)
- Distance Learning (DL)
- Degree Apprenticeship / Degree Apprenticeship - JD Wetherspoon (DA)
- Franchise partners
- Carnegie Leaders in Learning (CLL)
- Leeds International Study Centre (LISC /Leeds ISC)
- Research
- Alumni
a. MyBeckett Homepage = Helpful Links Cards
Staff will see a different view than students, if you cannot find common links that you need on the Homepage, please go to the 'All Staff Community' (via the Communities section in the main menu).
b. Helpful Links Cards placements
As a general rule staff and students do not share the same Helpful Links cards (what they see will be covered further in this guide) .
The descriptive image left or right indicate the audience:
- Staff: Left aligned cards are visible to Staff only
- Students: Right aligned images are Student facing

Some Helpful Links cards are visible to everyone such as:
