Student Development
We are here to support you in developing the wide range of skills that you will need in your postgraduate research studies.
As a research student (except if you are studying for a Masters by Research or PhD by Published Works degree) it is a compulsory part of your degree to take part in our Research Training Programme and provide a record of your completed training.
Alongside The Graduate School’s dedicated training and development team, your supervisor will support and guide you in your training.
Research training portfolio
The skills you need to develop are unique to you. To help identify your skills and those you would like to either improve or gain, you will need to complete a training needs analysis. The results will help you find the training or activities so you can fulfil your development aims.
Evidence of this, your training needs analysis, and reflections on your learning experiences combine to form your research training portfolio. Our research training policy gives more detail on this process.
Research Training Programme (RTP)
We offer a series of workshops and seminars that will equip you with the skills needed to successfully complete your research degree and develop transferable skills for your future career.
The RTP can be viewed and booked by clicking on ‘Calendar’ on SAM. The Research Training Programme (VLE001098) module on MyBeckett also offers a range of online training resources.
