Amanda Belle is an alumni of Leeds School of Arts, graduating from BA (Hons) Production and Performance in 2016. She came to study an undergraduate degree at Leeds Beckett from Canada, graduating in 2016.

Returning to Canada after graduation, she has been working at Ubisoft as a Sound Designer and has worked on games including Splinter Cell Blacklist, Watch Dogs Legion and XDefiant. Here, she talks through her experience as an International student and alumni.

Introduce yourself – tell us who you are and what you do?

My name is Amanda Belle, I’m a Sound Designer at Ubisoft and live in Toronto, Canada.

Talk us through your career since graduating?

I worked at Ubisoft before attending Leeds Beckett as a Quality Control Tester but left to pursue finishing my degree. After graduation, I came back to Ubisoft and moved into Sound Design.

What did you enjoy about your course at Leeds Beckett?

I loved how there were many modules that covered different aspects of both performance and production which kept me interested in trying different areas of the music industry instead of focusing on one discipline.

How did the course equip you for your career?

I learned the foundations necessary to begin my journey into the audio world.

What does the future hold for you?

I’ve been back at Ubisoft now for 7 years and see myself continuing in my career for a long time.

What would you say to someone considering studying your course at Leeds Beckett?

Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone! As a Canadian that wanted to further my education in England, Leeds was the perfect place to do it. Throughout my time at Beckett, I met many friends who I still keep in contact with, and I even met my husband there. I look back at my time at Beckett very fondly and appreciate how I’ve grown into the person I am today because of the whole experience.
