Patricia Flannery, LLB (Hons) Law

My interest in law comes from my study of psychology. I have always been interested in how the mind works and why people commit crime. This is a career that I feel I have both the temperament and skills required to be successful. I believe that I contribute genuine passion and enthusiasm for Law and I also believe that I have been equipped with all the rights tools to be successful in this subject.

Scholarship Recipient Patricia Flannery

Transitioning to university life can be a tough and anxious time. It can be worrying having to meet new people and make new friends. Coming to university on your own and doing the work load on your own can be very daunting however at Leeds Law school the support is out of this world. I am starting to take control of my time management as this is essential to get everything done revising for exams and writing essays. It can be challenging as a student to budget your money in the correct manner and to make it last through the semesters.

This scholarship is going to make a massive difference in my studies and it will allow me to be more selective in how I spend my free time and instead of having a part time job I will now be lucky enough to be able to study and read in more depth with more time to do so. I have put my name forward for the mooting team which is extra-curricular which I am really looking forward to and I will use the money to make the most out of my university experience and to buy some hard copy law books and all the expenses that comes when one starts to read a degree.

After completing my law degree, I hope to progress and further my studies by completing a Masters degree in law. I am keen to develop my knowledge before progressing onto the Legal Practice Course.

My ultimate ambition is to undertake a training contract and become a solicitor and to work in my hometown Leeds. I am only in first year, however I am very interested in my contract law module and feel I will do very well in this subject moving forward. I have always wanted to work in the legal field so I count myself very lucky for this opportunity and I aspire to be very successful.

"Being in receipt of my scholarship this will make a huge difference to my university experience. I am very happy and appreciative to receive the news that I had been chosen for the scholarship."
