Speech and language experts at Leeds Beckett University reduce NHS waiting lists and transform the lives of their young clients

More than 60 children, aged between two and nine, took part in a series of clinics held during the school summer holidays in 2017.

All the children had a range of speech, language and communication needs, while some had additional needs such as autism, cerebral palsy and learning difficulties.

The clinics, held in the university’s city campus, had a significant impact on access to treatment. As part of a wider Leeds Community Healthcare (LCH) NHS Trust initiative, the clinics helped bring waiting lists down from over 12 months to less than 18 weeks.
