Tackling poverty and poor health in Leeds
Jane South is Professor of Healthy Communities at Leeds Beckett University and Public Health England’s National Adviser on Communities. Jane is a recognised expert in her field and works towards building a strong evidence-base to inform Government policy and strategy in the field of communities and community health.
As part of the response to Covid-19, Jane is contributing through her PHE role in a cross sector group looking at how community-based volunteering efforts can be supported and sustained. For more than 15 years, Jane has dedicated her research to helping people experiencing disadvantage and was instrumental in creating the CommUNIty project at Leeds Beckett University, which has developed relationships with community and voluntary sector organisations across the city such as St George’s Crypt and Hamara.
