Today, 13 November, is World Kindness Day so why not make your mark and cheer up the world by becoming a RAKtivist.

It doesn't take much! Here are a few kind things you can do to turn someone's frown upside down... that'll make you feel good too!

Laugh often

Tell someone a funny story or joke. Being self-deprecating is usually a winner as it shows you don't take yourself too seriously and people bond well over humour.

Ready, set, bake

Whip up some goodies and give them to your friends or flatmates. Lots of cookies = lots of smiles! (Or, you could go the easy way about it and buy a sharer pack from the shop - it'll still have the same effect).

Pick up rubbish around town

Be kind to the environment and pick up some rubbish!

Chivalry isn't dead

Prove it by holding the door open for someone or offering to carry a bag for them.

Flattery works a charm

Find opportunities to give compliments. It costs nothing, takes no time, and could make someone’s entire day. Don’t just think it. Say it.

Give to charity

If your budget can take it then charities appreciate all the support they can get – even if it’s just the odd fiver now and then – choose a cause you’re passionate about and give them a hand today. When you shop online, you can also choose to shop through Give As You Live or Amazon Smile, who will donate a percentage of what you spend to a charity of your choice at no extra cost to you (or the charity).

Say I love you

Even if it’s just to your dog…

Be polite

This is an easy one that can be forgotten with the pace of life. Say "please" and "thank you"—and really mean it. Putting someone else first will make you feel good about yourself too.

Be sociable

Smile, wave or say ‘hi’ to someone you don’t know. Chances are they will smile back and if they don’t then at least it got you smiling!

Appreciate others

Leave a generous tip for a pleasant waiter.

Have a happy World Kindness Day!
