Hannah stated “The UK is a world leader in staging events and exports this skill around the world.  The impact of Covid on our £100 billion UK industry has been devastating.  Industry partners such as Tour de Yorkshire and Deer Shed Festival, have pulled their events and we have seen so many highly skilled industry professionals fall through the gaps in terms of Government support”.

Hannah and her students are coordinating with venues across Yorkshire to raise awareness by asking them to light up their venues in red on the 30th September.  Support for venues includes technical advice and production equipment (donated free by local suppliers in the events industry).  Students will also be employing their digital media skills to promote the campaign and are assisting the organisers in managing the day of action throughout Yorkshire.  She adds “I’m very proud of the fact that our students understand how vital it is that the events industry adapts and prospers in spite of the Covid crisis, and that their combined effort is strengthening the #WeMakeEvents campaign”.

Head of UK Centre for Events Management, Dr James Musgrave states “We support this campaign fully and Hannah continues to provide a fabulous opportunity for students to gain experience of working in events during the covid crisis.  It just goes to show the level of commitment and professionalism our students have to their future careers”.
