In November No Waste We’ll Cook brought the university community together to meet and share great food in a celebration event launched by Stephen Roe (ITS), LBSU, Accommodation, Beckett Food and the Global Engagement team.

Drawing large crowds keen to sample sustainably sourced and low-cost food LBSU’s pay-as-you-feel soup station EcoSoup served up a warming Mixed Lentil and Tomato, with Beckett Kitchen offering tasters of Chicken Biriyani and Spinach Dahl. The food didn’t last long – within 30 minutes the free buffet had been emptied but recipe cards were on hand so eventgoers could recreate their own versions at home.

The event hosted a variety of institutions and businesses from across Leeds, offering practical tips to stay on budget despite the rising cost of living. Foodwise Leeds attended giving advice on how individual action can support big sustainable change in Leeds. Promoting the benefits of local sourcing, Kirkgate Market have been working closely with event organiser Stephen to provide discounted food for international students.

Plans are in place for s series of follow up events – so watch this space!
