A group of over 20 law students from Leeds Beckett University recently took part in an insight day at TransUnion – a global IT services company which has a branch in Leeds.

The students heard from a range of experts, including those working in the legal team, risk department and compliance teams about their careers working within an in-house legal team. The students also received valuable advice from the talent acquisition and human resources teams on how they can be best prepared to take the next step moving from university into the world of work.

Grace Young, an LLB (Hons) Law student, said: “I had the opportunity to learn about the crucial work of their legal team, who are key in managing legal risks, ensuring compliance, and providing guidance on areas such as data privacy. It was also beneficial to hear from their HR team.It was a great experience and gave me a huge insight into the legal world.”

Susanna Kadzirange, also a third year LLB (Hons) Law student, added: “I learned a huge amount, including the importance of seeking opportunities even if they are not necessarily in the area you are initially wanting to go into. This stood out to me because of how straightforward career paths are made out to be, when sometimes it takes exploring new paths and gathering experience from different industries to finally reach your career destination.

“I also had the opportunity to network with some of TransUnion’s talented and inspiring professionals who shared their journey and gave many invaluable tips for success. Overall, this experience gave me fresh insight on how to navigate my career path as well as boosting my confidence in networking with professionals in person and online.”
