MA Landscape Architecture Amsterdam Trip 2019

As part of the Post Graduate Landscape Architecture course, students studying the ‘Cities Alive’ Landscape and Urban Design module recently visited Amsterdam.

The students in Amsterdam

This interdisciplinary Design Studio is run in association with Arup Landscape Architecture as well as Amsterdam and Leeds City Authorities. There they met up with Amsterdam city Landscape Architect, Ruwan Aluvihare and visited a number of projects covering subjects such as Ecological Planning and Design, Community Engagement, Urban Design Analysis and Sustainable Communities.

The photograph shows students and staff travelling the Amsterdam way on our recent field visit. Biking is the best way to see the city and its inspiring landscape. Over 70% of the population in Amsterdam travel around daily by bike. Planning policies aimed at further reductions in private motorised transport are allowing for safer cycling and walking with new city developments putting green transport and green environments at the forefront of planning and urban design policies”
