The Grierson Trust was established in 1972 and commemorates the pioneering Scottish documentary maker John Grierson (1898 – 1972), famous for Drifters and Night Mail and the man widely regarded as the father of documentary. As well as being responsible for the annual British Documentary Awards, more fondly known as The Griersons, awarded each autumn, the Trust also invests in an active education programme to provide workshops and specialist mentoring for budding documentary makers.
